Apple has completed key production testing for its long-talked-about augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) headset, according to DigiTimes.

Citing information from the headset’s component vendors, the device is said to have completed Phase Two Engineering Validation Testing (EVT 2) to ensure prototype units meet Apple’s design goals and specifications. DigiTimes added that the headset is expected to debut by the end of 2022.

Preliminary information was shared in DigiTimes‘paywall’Before going to press“, so there are no more details yet. The full report should be published by tomorrow, possibly with more information.

While Apple’s headphones were widely thought to launch this year, a recent report from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman questioned the device’s chances of emerging this year due to development issues.

Nonetheless, Apple’s headphone project is said to be nearing take-off, with the device mirroring the Apple Watch’s development timeline in the run-up to its launch. Apple’s work on the headset operating system, realityOS, has been rumored since 2017, but the existence of the operating system was recently confirmed when references to it were found in the App Store download logs and Apple’s open source code. DigiTimesThe latest report is another sign that Apple’s headphones are moving closer to mass production, even though the device’s announcement timeline now appears to be vaguely somewhere in 2022 or 2023.

The headset is rumored to feature a lightweight design, dual 4K micro-OLED displays, 15 optical modules, dual core processors, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, eye tracking, seamless AR mode, object tracking, controls gestures, etc. . The exact price of the device is still unclear, but some reports indicate that it could cost customers around $3,000. For more detailed information, see our full summary.
