Class action for Week X of the 2022 Winter Spectacular Show Series kicked off with $20,000 C. Jarvis Insurance Welcome price. Twenty-four horse-rider combinations seized the opportunity to challenge FEI Level IV course designer Bernardo Costa Cabral’s (POR) elaborate tracks where 14 entrants found the key to a faultless first round, but it was Tracy Fenney and MTM Apple (Favorit Ask x Kong’s Whopsie) who were elusive.

Fenney (USA) and fan favorite MTM Apple were the sixth pair to descend the WEC Grand Arena on-ramp to try their hand at the Cabral track, clocking a stunning first lap in 75.520 seconds.

“It was a long course. I was shocked at how nice the footing was because we had a lot of rain today,” Fenney said. “The foot here is just blank. You can walk out in white tennis shoes with nothing on them. I don’t think anyone ever has to worry about galloping around these arenas.

Fenney and the 11-year-old Danish Warmblood mare qualified directly for the jump-off, clearing the finishing times in 35.044 seconds, a simply unbeatable time. Fenney also finished fifth in class aboard a new mount, MTM Campedu.

“I stayed on a straight canter after the first fence to get off the line and back from two to three because the four got really deep. The rest just sank straight,” Fenney said. “It’s crazy how many steps you can leave out in this ring. A lot of people took eight strides to the last jump of the first round and I took the six from the jump-off. If you followed that line and you think you can do all six there, you’re crazy. Then you get to the dam and the horses open up where it’s easy to leave so many out.

Willie Tynan (IRL) and Fenise (VDL Campbell x Wica Van De Hermitage) of MDM Equestrian Group, LLC placed second, having completed two clear rounds. Tynan and the 12-year-old KWPN gelding cleared the first lap in 76.767 seconds near the end of the order. The pair went straight to the jump-off, kicking into high gear for a straight canter, stopping the clocks at 35.603 seconds.

Sharn Wordley (NZL) and her own Gatsby (Simba x Daisy Cruise) complete the top three. Wordley and the 18-year-old Irish Sport Horse stallion clocked an effortless first lap of 72.427 seconds, well within the time limit of 79 seconds. The pair stepped forward to tackle the jump-off, flying over the course, soaring quickly over each fence in 35.944 seconds.
